Backyard Fun

Poppy loved hanging out with her Kansas City foster family in the suburban backyard. I was a little nervous about how she would react to the dogs living next door to my mom, but she did great! She said hi to them then came back to hang out with us. She even did well on her walks, just watching them from their backyards. I was happy to see that despite living in the country, Poppy could live in the suburbs just fine!

It was a hot day, temperatures were reaching the 80s!

She jumped in the hole we dug for a tree to cool off!

Playing with the neighbors' dogs.

Doing zoomies with her toys.

Coolin' off in the pool

She says, "Come hang out with me this summer!"

Kansas City Highlights

Poppy Rose came with us to Kansas City, to meet her aunts, uncles, foster grandma and grandpa. She did great and we learned a lot about her, but more on that later. First, just some fun pictures of her meeting the family!

She was well behaved in the hotel room!

Playing with Uncle Justin

Giving Pops kisses

Saying hi to Oma

There was one person who was her favorite, and that is my brother Kris!

Here is one cousin she couldn’t meet!

Bulldog Hobbs

My proudest moment with Poppy was when all of her training paid off and she was able to lay down with a toy despite all the people around!

Sorry for the bad shadow...

An Easter Visit

Poppy Rose woke up Sunday morning to find that the Easter Bunny left her a fancy new collar with a note:

Poppy Rose,

You have a special guest coming today,

so you need to look your best!

Happy Easter

So Poppy waited outside for her surprise, sporting her new jelly bean collar.

And who showed up?! M and R! M called the shelter in just the nick of time to save  Poppy from euthanasia. She and R drove all the way up to NY and back in one day. Poppy looves R, she sat with his friends and watched them play video games.

They brought Poppy some yummy treats: dogs biscuits from Baltimore Bakery and some shredded chicken! I would say Poppy Rose had a wonderful Easter, and she hopes everyone else did too!

Poppy has her own bunny ears!

To Grandmother’s House I Go

I got my bags packed: a blanket, sweater, peanut butter (mmmmm), food,  kongs, my Thundershirt (in case I get a little too excited about seeing my extended foster family), and  a few toys to go Foster Grandma’s house! She lives all the way in a place called Kansas City, Missouri so I will be taking another road trip! Yay! I am so excited to stay in a hotel too. I told my foster mom I will be really good this week.

See me here practicing my sit, stay, and leave it!

My bags are are packed!

Poppy is a wonderful road trip dog, if you are interested in Poppy fill out a application on the Jasmine’s House website.

My Chores

I am always helping out around the house. Whether I am inspecting my foster dad’s work as a mechanic, my foster mom’s paint job in the bathroom, sorting socks on laundry day, or tending to the garden, I just love being with my humans!

Here I am helping my foster mom bring the compost out to the backyard!

Let's go!

Are you sure I can't eat this?

I got it, I got it!

Usually my siblings are doing this while I am working so hard, silly dogs!

zzzz

If you want Poppy to help you around the house, fill out an adoption application on the Jasmine’s House website.

Sports Star

Everyone calls me a Pop Star because of how awesome I am at learning my new tricks like to sit and stay, not to  jump, and politely ask for things. While I sure like to work hard to please my humans, life needs to be about fun too! And boy do I have fun!

My  foster mom says I could play wide receiver because of how fast I run!

Touch down!

I dabble  in a little soccer too

GOAL!!!!

I think my new nickname should be Sports Star! Waddayu think?

If you want to play sports with Poppy, fill out an application on the  Jasmine’s House website.

Settling Down, Settling In

Some of you may have met Poppy at the farm, but many of you know her through this blog. Poppy has come a very long way in the 6 weeks that she has been here. I really didn’t see it until last weekend, when McMuffin‘s foster parents saw her at the Pittie Trails hike waiting patiently for the walk to begin. They told me how different she is than when they met her for the first time. That is when I began to notice too.

I first met Poppy at training on Sunday mornings at the farm (that is where McMuffin’s foster parents saw her too) and she was poppin’. She had the attention span of a gnat! She would catch on to the new command quickly, but start jumping up on the trainer, doing zoomies, and playing tug with her leash. Phil and I wanted to help her after Ozzie got adopted, because we saw her potential. We were not wrong.

Fast forward to now…On Saturday, she sat and waited patiently for the  hike to start with 11 dogs and several people walking around. We can get through a training session with her, and last night we took her to the car dealership as I dropped off the car and I had her sit while we waited and she did a beautiful job!

The first night Poppy came to our house she did not stop running, playing, doing zoomies, bouncing, leaping, or jumping for 3 hours straight. This dog is suppose to be 5 years old, but has the energy level (and manners) of a 6 month old puppy!

Fast forward to now, Poppy is learning to lay next to us calmly and sleep, she can now quietly be petted, and a really a good 20 minute romp around the yard or a nice 40 minute walk, and some mental exercise (training) she is calm and relaxed the rest of the day. She no longer jumps to get what is in our hands but sits, she does dinner downs while we are eating instead of leaping into our laps, and when we are working at our lap tops she goes and grabs a bone and hangs out at our feet  until we are done.

Poppy has a long way to go, but she is half way there. Next Wednesday, she begins her CGC certification training, and we will take her obedience to the next level. Poppy is going to make her future family very proud, she has made us proud.

There are many dogs like Poppy out there: high energy and “over the top”. When you channel their energy, give them boundaries, and let them be themselves, they shine. Poppy will never be a therapy dog, but she would be an all star agility champ.  She wouldn’t excel in a home that has cats and other dogs and young kids running around, but she will excel with the right person or couple wanting a single dog to devote their lives to. Poppy would make you the center of her universe, and that is true pit bull love.

Walking on Sunshine

I think Poppy feels good!

She wishes everyone could get off the computer and leave the office to go outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. She says, “Go play with your doggies! and if you don’t have a dog, I will play with you!”

"This has gotta be the good life"

Jolly Poppy

Poppy loves this beautiful weather we’ve been having, going outside and doing zoomies, sniffing, and even helping her foster mom garden. She really likes playing fetch, but told me that she has found all the best hiding spots and wants to play something else.

We went to the Pittie Trails hike last Saturday and Poppy saw her fellow Jasmine’s House friend, McMuffin. McMuffin told Poppy all about the Jolly Ball. Poppy asked me if she could have one too and because she is such a good Pop Star, I got her one. I think she really enjoyed it!

Catching her breath

Off again!

Poppy loves her toys,  I think the Jolly Ball was a big hit with her!

And We’re Back!

There have been a lot of big changes here in the Between Trains household, but everyone is doing well! We will start updating daily again. Poppy, Tilly, Copper, and Ernie are excited to let you know what is going on here.

We left off telling you about Poppy’s great adventure. Phil sold his motorcycle and we drove to Connecticut to drop it off and Poppy came with us. She did so wonderful! She calmly hung out  in the car, enjoyed the rest stops, and politely sat while we paid the tolls. She is a wonderful road trip dog!

Poppy Rose has been up to some exciting stuff lately and wants to say We’re Back!

She is excited to be talked about again, really!!
